Chrysler LLC, headquartered in Auburn Hills, Michigan, is a 2008 Secretary of Defense Freedom Award recipient in the Large Business category. Chrysler is also a recipient of the 2008 Pro Patria Award from the Michigan Committee for ESGR and has received several “Above and Beyond” awards. CEO Robert Nardelli instituted a task force to review company policies in support of Chrysler employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve and for all veterans. Mr. Nardelli also encouraged Chrysler employees to participate in the Department of Defense “America Supports You” program in support of deployed Chrysler employees. The Chrysler Veterans Committee regularly collects items and sends comfort packages to deployed employees and other service members. Chrysler provides pay differential and full benefits for up to 48 months of military service for all its Guard and Reserve employees. In 2004, Chrysler provided a $100,000 donation to the Michigan Army National Guard Family Support Fund. Chrysler is sponsoring an ongoing program, Freedom Calls, to allow family members of deployed service members to participate in a video-teleconference with their deployed service members in Iraq. Working in conjunction with 3,600 Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge dealers, Chrysler will soon begin offering military members leaving the service employment opportunities with dealerships. Chrysler also has participated in regional Veterans Job Fairs sponsored by the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth. As a result of these events, several Guard and Reserve members have been hired by Chrysler. The Chrysler Veterans Committee is co-sponsoring the 2008 Armed Forces Day employer event with the Michigan Committee for ESGR at the Selfridge Air National Guard base.
